Being of Service

“Any unselfish, loving act done for another or for the greater good.
Ideally this act should be done without want of recognition"

-Piero Dusa

I have discovered that nothing fills me like the rewards I feel when I'm truly being of service. The modern world is and always will be driven by ego and the result is that we feel incomplete and inadequate. This happens for some because they live in the past. Some do not take responsibility for their lives and end up blaming everyone else or remain victims of their childhoods forever. Others live in the future having false illusions of happiness (for example if I get this money, then I’ll be happy … or if I change my appearance, then I’ll be happy or vis a vis). We often miss the most important time, the present, and being aware of this moment. Most of us have not learned how to be present in the moment and love ourselves for the unique individuals that we are. We avoid life and escape from making a true connection with ourselves and others. I know this because I was one of those people for many years, constantly thinking that something or somebody would fill the void that I had created within myself. Just like the old saying goes: I had to hit rock-bottom and experience dramatic life-changing events before I realized that the answers and happiness I was seeking were not in other people or things but within myself. I learned to stop worrying about external dilemmas and trust myself. I have had a true spiritual awakening and I hope you will too.

Therefore, I encourage you to live in the moment. I urge you, if you have a friend or a loved one who has shown self-destructive behavior, let them know there are places they can go for help. There are many programs where one can find the support they need to move further with their lives, silence the negative voices in their head and be a peaceful soul. Once I chose to stop living in denial and ceased blaming my Higher Power for what the ego had done, the journey to be in alignment with my authentic self began and I now live each day with guidance and gratitude for the gift of life and all that it brings - moment to moment.

         Sincerely,

          Piero
